Our health system is really getting stupid. Has anyone else noticed that? What happened to the days when, if you were sick, you could get in to see your doctor that same day? Now if you're sick, you have to call and wait 2-3 weeks for an appointment and just hope that you're still sick to explain everything to your doctor so that she doesn't think you're some hypochondriac or something. Here's what happened.

On Sunday, Chris wasn't feeling so good. He would cry and whine (like any 2 year old!) but he would also grab his head and his tummy and say "ow, ow" and he was really burning up. Anyways, he was really restless through the night, and then screamed and slept on and off all day on Monday. When I came home from work, he was still fevered and you could tell he was really sick. I decided that he needed to see a doctor, so I called the after hours # that we're supposed to call. Our doctor has a policy that if you need help after hours, you call this number. If you go to a walk-in clinic, she will drop you as a patient. This number turns out to be Telehealth Ontario... and you wait forever to talk to someone. When I finally got someone on the phone (a real nurse, apparently) I had to then register and explain everything to her. I told her that all I needed to know was where the after hours clinic was for Cambridge on Monday night. You know what this nurse told me?!?!? That based on what I told her about Christopher, she was calling an ambulance right away for him. I told her no. I know Chris, and I know that he wasn't sick enough for that. Believe me, if he was that ill, I would have had him at the hospital in a heartbeat instead of wasting my time calling her. So the nurse wouldn't tell me where the clinic was. I had no choice but to take Chris to the hospital and sit and wait for hours there. I made sure that the doctors there knew that I wasn't impressed. Maybe this is the reason that the er's are overflowing with people - non-emergency issues shouldn't be seen at the hospital. If she had told me where the clinic was, everything would have been over & done with within an hour and I wouldn't have been so mad. As it was, we sat in emerg for a few hours just to have a doctor tell us that Chris had an ear infection and needed antibiotics. No, really? Wow. And a clinic couldn't tell me that? Does this mean that next time Chris has a runny nose or slight fever that I should go running to the er? I'd hate to be seriously hurt and need emergency care and couldn't get it because all the doctors were too busy wiping kids noses and checking temperatures.

There I go ranting again. And to top it all off, the doctor asked Chris if he wanted a popsicle and he said yes - then he didn't get it. Oh well, he spit his medicine all over the nurse, so that kinda made me feel better. But I'm really not impressed with our doctor and this stupid afterhours thing. Maybe its time to get a new doctor.

Funny thing is that I'm happy right now! American Idol was on tonight.... JASON'S GONE!!!! Now I just need David Cook to win. Yay!

More good news! I have a new front door!!!! Ok, so I have it, but its just not installed yet. Its beautiful! I can't wait to see it when its done - its going to be so much brighter in the front hallway. I'll take before & after pics to share.... going to be done soon!

There we go, I'm done for tonight. Goodnight!
